"Ejaculation is controlled by the pelvic muscles, which reflexively tighten right before ejaculation, " says Michael Metz, Ph.D., coauthor of Coping with Premature Ejaculation. "So squeezing these muscles in an attempt to delay ejaculation actually works against you."
2. Stretch.
A 2007 study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that 1 hour of daily yoga for 12 weeks quadrupled the duration of sex - from 33 seconds to 1:52. The best yoga positions, reported the study, are those that promote relaxation and strengthen the pelvic muscles.
3. Chart a new course.
"Think of your arousal on a scale of 1 to 100 and practice keeping it within 10 points of 30, " says Metz. As you strengthen your pelvic muscles, learn to feel them start to tighten as you become more excited. When that happens, slow down until they relax again.
4. Pop so you don't pop.
Ask your doctor about the off-label use of SSRI antidepressants, which delay ejaculation by raising levels of serotonin, a brain chemical that controls sexual excitement. A 2007 study by Dutch researchers determined that daily use of Paxil was almost twice as effective as the next-best drug.
